Mike Lidstone - Head Coach
While growing up in the Port Hawkesbury area Mike was coached in high school football by two Mounties who had made a lasting impression ona team of young men. When Mike joined the RCMP in 1986 he immediately got involved with coaching high school football at Carson Graham Secondary School in North Vancouver, B.C. In 1992 Mike was encouraged to get involved with coaching wrestling at a well established and successful high school wrestling program at Carson Graham Secondary School and at the local Capilano Wrestling Club. Mike immediately noticed the social benefits of the sport of wrestling. Social experts have identified low self-esteem as being the primary reason why youth partake in drugs and youth violence. By creating a positive team environment where youth can have some success and boost their confidence youth are deterred from negative social influences. A mentor of Mike's once said- " Get these kids to believe in themselves and they will become champions on and off the mat."
In 2003, Mike was transferred with the RCMP to Ottawa where he coached at the National Capital Wrestling Club and Woodroffe High School.
In 2006, Mike's next transfer took him to Windsor, N.S. where he coached at Avon View High School until 2010.
In 2010, Mike rejuvenated the Sackville High School wrestling team and started the Sackville Wrestling Club where practices are run for a younger youth group ( aged 7-11) and the older group (aged 12-18).
Mike has been fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful group of enthusiastic and experienced coaches to help deliver several years of positive experiences for many young wrestlers.
